I'm back in Lone Pine--this time, to stay (yay!).
As is my wont, I post pics from my travels.
I washed clothes yesterday and left the machine unattended while I went to the office to pack my books and telephone and polyhedron and brick and artwork and so on. Upon returning home, I found water on the floor in front of the washing machine. I've used that washer about 50 times over the year that I've lived here, and it never saw fit to spew water-- until, of course, this one time I left it unattended. I understand the temptation to believe in gremlins. But back to the impending move. The plan is to drive the next few days, and when my house appears in front of me I would like to show enough sense to go indoors and rest and leave the unloading of the car for the morning. Except for the snake; a bearer (i.e., your Tommy) will carry him indoors, if not in grand style. Maybe I should make him a sedan chair for such occasions. My cactus stoically contemplates the evanescence of things. (Probably the last in an occasional series.) The local Borders, going out of business, had guys on the sidewalk yesterday holding signs saying 50% off. I stopped in. They had a copy of the new biography of David Bowie (at 30% off; maybe I missed seeing some fine print on the signs) and I was going to buy it until I saw the huge line at the cash register. I was able to justify not standing in line by noting that it was hot out and I had groceries in the car: a transparent ploy to head off any feelings of inadequacy for not having patience.I can't say I will seriously miss Borders because I didn't go there a lot and have preferred indie bookstores. But they did make a good hot chocolate. T-cells. I wouldn't mind if the rough symmetry in the interval from 2001-2011 continues, and the count eventually returns to the 1102 seen 20 years ago. |
